How many forms of Magnesium do you need?

Discovering new more bioavailable forms as an essential innovation

There are more and more companies touting the benefits of a Magnesium supplement with multiple forms. Some claim that their formulation of 7, 9, or even 12 forms may better satisfy your daily needs for this essential mineral.

Are they correct?

The answer is complicated. Our body’s need for Magnesium on a daily basis is scientific fact. There are over 300 esential processes in the body which are dependent upon this earth mineral. In short, you just can’t live without it – and having less than optimal levels may thwart your healthy functioning in ways we don’t want to imagine.

But the fact is – there is no ONE or TWO or SEVENTEEN forms that your body requires. So, to this extent there are no ESSENTIAL FORMS, only varying degrees of bioavailability in forms of this essential mineral nutrient.

That being said, having the MOST BIOAVAILABLE forms in one supplement can be arguably beneficial. In short – it isn’t how much Magnesium you TAKE IN TO YOUR BODY, it is how much Magnesium that is USED BY THE CELLS OF YOUR BODY.

One of the functions of Magnesium is that it relaxes smooth muscle. This is why it can be applied topically for muscle pain, etc. It is also why forms that are TOO RAPIDLY absorbed can cause loose stools – such as common Magnesium Oxide (important differentiation coming shortly), can cause loose stools or diarrhea because they are quickly absorbed by the cells of the intestines and cause loosening of those smooth muscles. Not a side effect most people want! (Although it should be noted that many people take common Mag Oxide to facilitate just that – to serve as a laxative.)

Now, why do I specify common Magnesium Oxide? Because there is a relatively new form of Magnesium Oxide which is even more bioavailable than forms like Magnesium Glycinate which are the most popular on the market. This form is called Sucrosomial Magnesium.

Sucrosomial Magnesium is a Magnesium Oxide supplement that uses a lipid-based coating made from phospholipids and sucrose-derived fatty acid esters. This protective structure is designed to help the mineral withstand the acidic environment of the stomach, support its absorption in the intestines, and reduce the gastrointestinal discomfort sometimes caused by standard magnesium products.

Sucrosomial technology increases the tolerability of Magnesium supplementation by encasing the mineral within the sucrosome structure. Because the magnesium does not interact with the intestinal mucosae, Sucrosomial® Magnesium is free of common side effects such as nausea and diarrhea.

Sucrosomial Magnesium is a highly bioavailable sucrosomial complex of magnesium oxide providing 32 percent elemental magnesium. Because the magnesium is covered by phospholipids plus sucrose esters of fatty acids matrix, its absorption is not impacted by the presence of other nutrients, unlike conventional forms of magnesium. A head-to-head test demonstrated that Sucrosomial Magnesium had faster absorption and 20 percent higher bioavailability than Magnesium Citrate, one of the most bioavailable forms of Magnesium on the market.

Magnesium Essential Nine from the Food Movement combines Sucrosomial Magnesium with 8 other highly bioavailable forms of Magnesium, and 100 mg of Black Earth minerals. This, in short – is the secret sauce. Fulvic acid, as David ‘Avocado’ Wolfe used to say, is the magic. It makes minerals in particular more bioavailable in human beings just as it does in the soil and in the natural ecosystem.

Don’t forget you also get Magnesium from mineral-rich foods, which are always an important part of the equation. We should remember to but ‘Food First!’. Here’s a list of the 26 most Magnesium-rich foods you should eat every day!
